I
always find it hard to talk about myself, but everyone I know has suggested an
"about us" page, so I will give it the old college try. We are originally from
the mainland, (my wife Yuri was born in Japan though) but we transplanted to
Hawaii many years ago...Hawaii is home. We love the islands, and whenever we
travel back to the mainland, we can't wait to get back home to Oahu.
We are the parents of two great, and somewhat challenging, teenage boys. They
are a handful to say the least.
I'm a nerd, and a computer geek. A former actor, baseball player, and semi
professional musician, I found photography quite by accident. Many years ago, I
ran a company that catered to actors by helping them find work. I started taking
pictures of those actors to make a "book" that would be distributed to the
various casting companies, and before long, I was approached to do some
headshots. Apparently, and quite unknown to me at the time, I was REALLY good at
it. Shortly after that, I started doing my own headshots, and almost immediately
I was booking more acting jobs. DING! A light bulb went on over my head, and a
career was born (and that's good because I wasn't really good at anything else).
Truth be told, we LOVE what we do. Photography, in all it's forms, has been a
tremendous blessing to us. We have been lucky enough to work for some BIG
companies doing ad campaigns, and industrial type work. Not trying to name drop,
but those companies include: Versace, Mitsubishi, Yamaha Motorcycles, Modern
Bride Magazine, Hawaiian Tropic, Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays, The Los Angeles
Angels of Anaheim, Venus Swimwear, The Orange County Gladiators Professional
Basketball Team, and the list goes on.
We have been refining the art of wedding photography, and again, we love what I
do. People ask us all the time as to why we do weddings. They suggest that it
would be boring, hard work, and difficult to deal with so many people. Our usual
response to them is that we look for the one thing in the wedding that will be
different, and we exploit it. We love finding that subtle nuance that no one
else has done in their wedding. Whether it be a piece of poetry, or a
grandmother's gift, we seek out those moments, and try to capture the story of
the day, and make it fit in a positive, and unique way.
We are very proud of our work, our relationship with clients, and that we have
been extremely successful in producing storybook type wedding photography.
We were recently awarded something that we are very proud of:
"Top 5 Wedding Photographers" - By: Hawaiian Islands Professional
Photographers Association.
What an honor...we know there are many talented photographers out there, and to
be chosen as one of the best by a collection of our peers, it is pretty
overwhelming. Top 5 in Hawaii...us? Really? WOW...we are just blown away.
But when we look at our work and album design, and compare it to what we see out
there, we are really proud...because nobody that we know of shoots a
wedding like we do. Look at the albums we have displayed. We think that says it
all.
Outside of our family, photography is our life. We treat each client with care,
and we try to photograph the wedding with total respect to the client's desires,
but we also add those personal touches that separate our work from the average
Joe Schmo. Take a look at our work, and you will see what I mean by "Aloha"
